PERFECT IMPERFECTION
A little less than 6 years ago founders Ingrid and Ina started ‘Amaï’ – a full ceramic collection designed and made in Vietnam. The two ‘expat wives’ both have a creative background and after traveling the world for a bit they partnered up in Saigon to create a humble, refined ceramic collection consisting of plates, bowls and cups in all kind of sizes.
All the designs look and feel really fragile, but are in fact surprisingly strong! Made of Kaoline, these cups can handle a bump. What I think that makes Amaï ceramics very cool is that the designs are glazed on the ínside and not at all on the outside. When you hold the cup or plate, it has a ‘raw’ feel but when you look down you see an imperfect shape, perfectly finished and glazed…
The showroom in Saigon was opened at the time for hotels and restaurants to have a look. But soon the showroom was so busy and loved by the local and international community, Amaï had to expand! Today you can find Amaï tableware in different shops around town in Saigon, but also in Amsterdam, The Hague and other cities around the world! Also Bruno was crazy about Amaï and ever since we visited the showroom, we are too!
