BRUNO DE CAUMONT

Meet Bruno de Caumont– Interior designer and ultimate parisian host right in the middle of Saigon. He is traveling back and forth between Saigon and Paris but manages to keep his home slash showroom slash studio an inspiring place for himself and visitors.

Saigon (or should I say Ho chi Minh City) consists of a lot of small courtyards. Most of the local houses are situated behind fences, where you will discover mini neighborhoods. Villa Verte, Bruno’s place, is also situated behind one of those fences. Away from a busy street, but in the middle of the city centre. This building was totally forgotten by many people before Bruno turned it into something special. Actually, the building was already there during the colonization of the French. The house is still in it’s original shape and division.

A black and white chessed floor welcomes you inside and is a surprising contrast to the Bruno de Caumont designed furniture and colorful walls. Bruno’s furniture have a wink to authentic 18th century designs but are very ‘now’, yet always respecting their roots. Personally I love the material and quality he works with. This very ancient technique is called lacquering, is a returning aspect in his designs. It has a wooden base that is covered in 12 layers of lacquer… when the traditional lacquer process is applying 18 layers!

We stayed at Bruno’s place for a few nights and had a great stay. We met some of his friends and enjoyed a homemade dinner which was delicious and a perfect start of our Vietnam journey. Thank you for having us Bruno!
